2010 ABC Symphony Australia Young Performers Awards

Since 1944, the ABC Symphony Australia Young Performers Awards has provided aspiring young musicians with the opportunity to perform with Australia’s major orchestras in the quest to be named ABC Symphony Australia Young Performer of the Year. It is an opportunity like no other for up-and-coming Australian classical artists.
The competition has been an important launch-pad for many successful music careers, unearthing an extraordinary number of talents including Simon Tedeschi, Diana Doherty, Roger Woodward, Ian Munro, Claire Edwardes, Li Wei Qin and many more.
The winner is declared the ABC Symphony Australia Young Performer of the Year and takes home a $20,000 cash prize, multiple copies of a CD of their winning performance and opportunities for future concert engagements with major Australian symphony orchestras.
2010 Awards
Brisbane pianist Oliver She, 19, won the prestigious Grand Final of the ABC Symphony Australia Young Performers Awards, in a stunning performance with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra conducted by Marko Letonja on Friday 27 August at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre.
Oliver She tackled the monumental third Piano Concerto by Rachmaninov in a compelling performance for the 2010 ABC Symphony Australia Young Performers Awards on Friday evening 27 August. This was his second Grand Final appearance, the first when he was only 14 years old.
At the Awards Oliver was also presented with the David Paul Landa Memorial Scholarship for Pianists – a biennial scholarship valued at $25,000.
