The Core Conductors programis designed for musicians aspiring to a career conducting orchestras around the world. While there is no official age limit for entry to the program, the majority of applicants are typically under 30 years old. Live auditions are held in Australia and New Zealand, with Christopher Seaman making the final selection for the program.
Aspiring conductors can apply through our website. In 2009, 23 applicants were selected to participate in the program. Successful participants will usually be part of the program for an average of five to six years to make the most of our array of opportunities.
A place within the Core Conductors program offers access to world class tutorage from senior conductors, podium time with professional symphony orchestras, and support by Symphony Services International’s broad network of resources.
Most modules involve work with a soloist as well as major symphonic repertoire. Modules are generally five days long, and conductors work with pianists and an ensemble as well as the professional orchestra. Participants are not guaranteed the opportunity to conduct an orchestra – this depends on their experience and level of preparation, and is determined by the teacher during the module.
