Investing in the training of Australian composers is a staple of the Artist Development program. One of the key activities managed by Symphony Services International is the two-stage Composer Development Program, hosted by Orchestra Victoria and taught by senior Australian composer Richard Mills.
In addition, Symphony Services International assists the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra in presenting the Symphony Australia/TSO Composers School. The 2010 school will take place in September and features composers Andrew Ford, James Ledger, Richard Mills and Kenneth Young. Applications for this project have now closed.
In addition to composer training, Symphony Services International has commissioned more than 170 new works from over 70 Australian composers since 1997.
